Simplicity 1198 Easy

July 13, 2016

I reviewed this pattern last year and decided to reinvent it again this year!

Using a lovely printed jersey in jade colours, I did the pattern with the drape.

The length was a little short so I extended it in the middle of the pattern by about 40mm (I am 5'4") so I could wear it with tights. I did a 3/4 sleeve similar to the pattern. I usually wear a size 14 but I used the size 12 and just did a overlock seam.

The neck is very wide, you will need to adjust it or just for something different I put a pleat in the centre front about 20cm then added a wider band about 20mm finished and then put a small dart in the centre front to give a v neck look.

I made it nearly all on the overlocker (love my Janome 644D) and just did a 2.5mm twin needle hem finish Hint- when you overlock a single thickness of a jersey make sure you reduce the tension of the needles ONLY down to 0, this will stop the thread from breaking- make sure you put the tension back or your next seam will pull apart!! Hint 2- if your twin needle leaves a bump in the centre try using a washaway tearaway underneath as you twin needle and then rinse it will stabilize the fabric. Happy Sewing :)
